My name is Shane Watson, and I draw stuff.

I also design stuff, like ads, websites and art contests. (I created the Character of the Week on Conceptart.org, and currently over see all of the challenges on CGHub.com).

I live on Orcas Island, in the Salish Sea, in the Pacific Northwest, north of Seattle, south of Vancouver B.C., and east of Victoria B.C.
"Oregano"
The "Oregano" in "Oregano Productions" is a hat tip to my mom, who, when I was a child and I would show her something that I had drawn, would say "Oh, that's so "oregano!"" "Oregano" is a pun, a play off of "original."

Interests
I have been drawing since I could pick up a pencil, trying to either capture the world around me, or create my own. As a child I was fascinated by the endless variations on a theme found the natural world (evolution), and by different ways we as humans have of looking at the world (cultural anthropology). Our particular cultural lenses, and the way they interact and change each other are of special interest to me.

Influences
My artistic influences are many, ranging from traditional masters, to inpressionists, to illustrators both from the turn of last century (Arthur Rahkham) to contemporary (Donato Giancolo) and all points in between.

Spooky Characters
I love dark faerie tales -- the sort that the Brothers Grimm or Alfred Hitchcock might have told, where there isn't a gauranteed happy ending -- where there is a real element of danger for the protagonist, and a touch of mystery to the story. But I also love a good wry sense of humor -- the dryer the better. As a child, I was captivated by Brian Froud and Alan Lee's book Faeries, spending hours and sometimes days pouring over it. The juxtiposition of the beautiful and the horrific and the mysterious was something that fascinated me, and I strove to emulate it in my art.

Likes
I like coffee, ice cream, sushi and cats. But not together. The ice cream and sushi, that is. Coffee goes with anything. Especially art. And cats.

Work
I've done work for Wizards of the Coast, Fantasy Flight Games, Malfador Machinations, among others.

My work has been published in Space Empires V - pc game, A Song of Fire and Ice - collected artwork of George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones, How to Draw and Paint Dragons by Tom Kidd, The Chinook Update, Nth Degree fanzine and various CCGs.

Activities
Aside from drawing and designing stuff, I also currently am an admin member and Community Director for www.cghub.com and over see all art challenges there. CharacterFORGE, New Worlds, Anatomicae, Illustrated & their 3D counterparts were my creations.

Goals
I want to illustrate children's and young adult books.
